Ever have trouble embossing or just have a ton of those embossing powder jars stilling in your supplies??? Well here's a way to use to use them.
1. Versamark pad/pen
use your favorite stamp & stamp on with a versamark pad to use with your embossing powder. want to free style it? use a pen to get that doodle look or fill in parts of your stamp.
2. glue pad
use your stamp again to stamp out your design then heat it up.
*Tip: take a dyer sheet to rub on the paper around your design to keep from getting those loose flecks of powder all over the cardstock. Stampin up also has a "embossing buddy" that does the same thing.
Either way you can create slight backgrounds, patterns to plain cardstock, key design elements on the cardstock, wording, or adding that extra flair to existing elements by accenting them with embossing powder.

a great magazine where you can see artful works of other scrapbook artists & their layouts. the magazine is a bit pricey but for the number of pages in the book it's sometimes worth buying once in a while. also included in the magazine are card layouts, home dec & a few other items.
Creating Keepsakes
one of the long lasting magazines where they have scrapbook layouts, product overviews, tips & techniques. great source for the monthly feed of a scrapbook magazine but is getting a bit add heavy. CK also has a ton of other sub-magazines, classes, trade shows, dvds, etc. you can find a large amount of information here.

brought to you by Better Homes & Garden has other scrapbook layouts, product overviews, tips & techniques. Also another great feed for your monthly scrapbook reads.
Digital Scrapbooking

You can download the videos via itunes or after purchasing a subscription to paper clipping you can download individual videos. Also there is a live show via UStream.com that you can login to see Noell in action as she walks through a layout or talks about the latest news. Paper clipping just added a roundtable where you can listen to an insiders interview with some of the scrapbook leaders. Very fun & informal roundtable but packed full of info.

so I was at a crop the other night with some girls talking about scrapbook stuff. you know the usual, supplies, vendors, magazines, artists, inspiration, webs sites & where to shop. & they were joking with me & calling me the google of scrapbooking. I thought mmm. I do know a lot about this stuff. & I do enjoy sharing it. So maybe I should be the google of scrapbooking. As my friends suggested "scrapaoogle" will now be my blog title. I'll be posting all kinds of tid bits of useful scrap info.

Isle Carnival fun...

I just got back from the Isle Carnival Night during "Reflections" weekend being offered in So Cal by Scrapbook Oasis. I personally couldn't part with the high price tag of $439 for the weekend to crop/learn & have fun with some of the pros @ Reflections. But the Isle Carnival was just the right price & time frame. It was $25 for an evening of make-n-takes, co-mingling with the pros, an open desert bar & vendor booths!

To give you details: there were 12 booths with 12 really cool professional artists, all with a free make-n-take for me & a few of my girlfriends to make. Some of the make-n-takes were: acrylic tag album, card sets, sewing felt mini-book, butterfly door hanger, a hanging photo frames, a few scrapbook pages, paper flowers, a mini-book, & an altered mint tin (of which I thought was the coolest). All of these make-n-takes were of different styles of scrapbooking/altering & it was nice to try on those different styles. It made me realized that you really can't have 1 way of doing this art & not to pressure myself it always make something "perfect".

I did take some pictures & I will be uploading them to the blog later on. You'll have to see how cute these make-n-takes were!

cool new finds...

Today I stumbled across a few new things I hadn't found before. 1 was this KSL Studio5 program, I guess it's a whole station somewhere but it has really cool scrapbooking stuff. take for example this cool reuse of baby board books you can find at a thrift or dollar store to make mini-books. It's a lot cheeper to buy these books than a chipboard book. You could even get a larger size book for a lot less. I would take note & use only that red adhesive. It would suck to do all that work on a book only to have the pages come off of your existing board book.

Ok, I finally put away the wishblade for a bit to rest my mind on the whole pen disasters to find something wonderful. Paper Clipping.com!!! Noell Hyman is a great designer & I am learning so much more from her. I have some skills, well at least I'd like to think that, & I want to take it the next level. I want designer pages! Noell's videos & "tutorials" on Paper Clipping.com does that.

Take for example this picture from Noell's site:

She goes through how to have he embellishments work to make a fantastic page. She shows you the principles of a visual layout & how to make the embellishments enhance the feeling trying to be conveyed on the page.

If you sign up for the membership you also get tons of video tutorials where she goes over various techniques. After watching a few of the freebies, I was hooked! I'm not a member & I am learning so much. If you want to improve your scrapbook abilities & rival the pros go to PaperClipping.com & get a membership!

Frustrated with wishblade

So as before you know I've been waiting for the wishblade for some time now & now that I have it I am so frustrated!!! >:{

Why you ask? Well.....I wanted to make a card the other day with this:

& I was going to use the pen technique on the wishblade to write directly to the card I had made. I my surprise all my my Zig, American Craft, Creative Memories, Bick, Galaxy, Jelly roll & from freebie pens would not fit in the pen holder! I'm so angry about this since I was assured by Xyron Wishblade support that it would take any standard pen. Yeah right buddy!

So then after trying every pen in my house, scrap room, & scrap bag I gave up to a pencil. Once I put the pencil in, both the cut fast/slow & pen plotter would not draw the image on the card! I tried everything, changing pressure, line length, speed, etc. & it barely drew out the image. I even went to the Xyron site directly, searching documentation, web videos, even YouTube. (sigh) No luck. If anyone knows how to make the pen work & what pen brand works in the holder let me know! Seriously...let me know

Wishing for a wishblade

So I have been wanting the wishblade for some time now but it had been completely out of my price range. Finally I bit the bullet & bought one from a well known craft store for a pretty good deal....I thought. I was really excited to get it since I watched all the YouTube videos of how to use it & download files to create new items to cut. Plus all the new updates to the create & cut + software where it traces an image. I also imaged being able to cut anything I could get my little fingers on or download since I am pretty good at photoshop & getting stuff from the web. But it felt like a pretty darn long time before I got the machine. In fact it was over 3 weeks before it was delivered to my door when I paid over $20 to get next day shipping!!!
Once it did arrive I quickly unwrapped it, got the YouTube episode out & began setting it up. I got all the way to the install & then realized one major flaw. :( I have a Mac & the cds that I had requested for were all for windows. How crappy is that?
So I spent the next few days on customer service lines to get my beloved Mac cds only to be told by Xyron that I had to shell out another $80+ bucks to get it to work on my mac. What a crock of...well you know...
I cannot tell you how pissed I was to find this out after I was assured by the craft store that I was buy the mac cds with this wishblade package. I almost packed it all up & sent it back but I painfully shelled out the extra cash to get it. I mean the entire purpose was that it was mac compatible where the others weren't. (sigh)
But now that I have the cd I am able to create all kinds of cool things with my wishblade. I'm hoping to get more time to get really good at it so you might see more posts of what I am doing.

New blogging for me....

Today I signed up for a blog. Wow how my life has changed. From a very private, techie, hiding in a cube to a free flowing mom of 2 & out going person. I'm not sure if my life is very interesting but who knows someone might find it funny every now & again.

So Cheers to blogging! May this be a good experience for all.
